How Physiotherapy Works with the NDIS
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia’s extensive program dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities. The scheme provides essential services and therapies, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their disability, has the opportunity to live a fulfilling life with the support they need. Through the NDIS, eligible participants receive funding to access personalised services and supports, fostering inclusivity and promoting independence.
Physiotherapy and the NDIS
Physiotherapists are a vital part of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Through occupational therapy, NDIS participants work on improving skills for daily tasks, enhancing mobility, adapting their environments, and developing social and communication skills- all essential to living a more independent and fulfilling life. Occupational therapists also provide a range of assessments such as functional capacity, assistive technology, sensory and home safety assessments.
Accessing NDIS Physiotherapy Services in Adelaide
What type of NDIS funding do I need to access Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy services, including those from Thrive Health Therapies, are funded under the ‘capacity building’ section of your NDIS plan. This section is designed to help you build skills and increase independence. Physiotherapy falls under the ‘improved daily living’ sub-category and includes assessment, training or therapy. Reviewing this section of your or your child’s plan will show you the amount of funding allocated for physiotherapy services.
How do I find a service provider in my local area?
Once you have your plan and understand the types of services that can support your goals, it’s time to explore providers in your area to see if they’re the right fit. Your early childhood partner, local area coordinator, or support coordinator can also assist in this process.
A helpful starting point is the NDIS registered service provider search tool, or ‘provider finder.’ This user-friendly tool lets you enter your postcode, desired travel distance, and the type of service you’re looking for (such as ‘therapeutic supports’ for physiotherapy). The tool then provides contact details and information on physiotherapy providers in your area.
Keep in mind that the provider finder only lists NDIS registered providers. Alternatively, you can search online for nearby service providers, many of whom offer online referral forms for service enquiries or to join a waitlist.
At Thrive Health Therapies we have no wait list and are ready to get started straight away. Enquire today!
